My code when it works and I don't know why: all right then, keep your secrets
A All Right Then, Keep Your Secrets post.
You ask the plumber what was wrong. He says "ah, it was the thing" and hands you an invoice for 140. You nod. You pay. You'll never know what the thing was. Your teenager comes home at midnight. "Where were you?" "Out." "With who?" "People." That's the whole report, and it is somehow final. The app updates for the fourth time this week. The release notes say "bug fixes and improvements". You have noticed neither, and you've stopped asking. You ask your nan for her biscuit recipe. "Oh, a bit of flour, some butter, you'll know when it's right." You won't. You never will. She smiles. **How it came about:** in The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), Frodo asks Gandalf what he's going to do and gets no answer, and gives up with "All right then, keep your secrets." Fans picked it as the reply to anyone who explains nothing. **Why it caught on:** it's the shrug everyone gives when they've decided the fight for an answer isn't worth it.
