What do your elf eyes see, Legolas? / A new trilogy announced / They're taking the hobbits to Hollywood again!
A What Do Your Elf Eyes See? post.
Your mum, from across the room, without her glasses: "You've had a haircut." It was one centimetre. Nobody at work has noticed in three days. The new colleague reads your report for thirty seconds and says "there's a typo on page 40". There is. You read it eleven times. Your friend looks at one photo of your date and says "he's still on the dating app, look at his phone". It's a reflection in a window. She's right. Somewhere in the house a single crisp packet rustles. The dog, three rooms away and fast asleep a second ago, is now beside you and has been for some time. **How it came about:** in The Two Towers (2002) Aragorn asks Legolas what his elf eyes see across Rohan, and he answers "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard!" In 2005 the line was remixed into a looping song and video that spread across the early web. **Why it caught on:** the question promises wisdom and the answer is a plain fact said with great drama - and the remix means half the internet still hears it as a song.
